GOLDEN PUCK CHAMPS!!!
Mudcat Nation,
Going East on Hwy #3 was this weekends '59th Annual Van Gool Memorial Golden Puck Tournament' in Port Colborne.
The Round Robin unbeaten Mudcats U13 Yellow had the hardest path to the finals.
Their toughest task seemed to be fending off the WN Flying Aces Blue Jackets as the 4-3 victory had to go thru all 3 overtime periods before the sudden death shoot out was decided by a Scott (Matthew, Dunnville goalie) wait out of that shooter only to loose it to the corner, opposite a Flatt decisive goalie wait out goal into the open blocker side of the WN netminder.
From there the Mudcats easily displaced the Wild team form Wainfleet in a decisive 7-2 drubbing.
The final was a tight contest on the score sheet against the also unbeaten Pelham Panthers coached by Mark Gaines. But through out the game Dunnville asserted themselves in every aspect of the game. With a 3-1 lead deep into the third the refs whistle all of a sudden was released as Dunnville took a penalty with 1:29 to go only to take another penalty, with an extra minor on a coincidental to put the team down 5-3 with little time remaining. Dunnville did give up a single goal with penalties and the goalie pulled for a 6 on 3 player advantage goal, but was still able to hold off the man advantaged Panthers to seal the victory and Championship.
Of note; Landon Flatt scored 15 goals in 6 games with an impressive 4 GWG.
