In his Minor year Owen was an equal master of both ends of the ice providing staunch defense and a deadly scoring wrist shot.  Coaches opinion, "Owen had the hockey sense to become part of a scoring rush and still get back in the transition part of the game.  He was never out of the play. He lived up to the jersey number he wore." For his team contributions he was awarded the James Norris Trophy for the best defenseman with the greatest all round ability in their position.
